Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the MigrantPortal platform, including our mobile app and website (collectively, the "Service"), operated ("we," "us," or "our"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using MigrantPortal, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, have read and understood these Terms, and agree to be bound by them. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. Description of Service
MigrantPortal is a platform that connects migrant families in need with helpers, volunteers, churches, non-profits, and community organizations. The Service allows:
- Connectors (caseworkers, social workers, teachers) to submit verified family needs
- Responders (volunteers, donors, churches) to meet those needs
- Partners (organizations) to build and manage community care networks
3. Account Registration
To use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete information
- Keep your login credentials confidential
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized account access
- Be responsible for all activity under your account
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or misuse the platform.
4. Connector Responsibilities
If you submit needs on behalf of migrant families, you agree to:
- Only submit genuine, verified needs for real families
- Obtain appropriate consent from families before submitting their information
- Not submit duplicate, false, or fraudulent requests
- Update or close needs once they have been met
- Comply with all applicable professional standards and laws
5. Responder Responsibilities
If you respond to needs as a volunteer, donor, or organization, you agree to:
- Only commit to needs you can genuinely fulfill
- Treat families with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity
- Not collect, store, or share family information beyond what is needed to meet the specific need
- Not use the platform for solicitation, recruitment, or any purpose other than meeting needs
6. Prohibited Conduct
You may not use MigrantPortal to:
- Harass, threaten, or harm any user or family
- Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information
- Collect or harvest personal data without consent
- Use the platform for commercial solicitation or advertising
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the platform
- Violate any applicable local, state, federal, or international law
- Discriminate against families based on race, religion, national origin, gender, or any protected characteristic
7. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. We take particular care to protect the sensitive information of the vulnerable families we serve.
8. Intellectual Property
The MigrantPortal platform, including its design, code, and content, is owned and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written permission.
9. Disclaimers
MigrantPortal is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee that:
- All submitted needs will be met
- All users are who they claim to be (though we implement verification measures)
- The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
We are a technology platform and are not responsible for the actions of connectors, responders, or partner organizations.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MigrantPortal shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed $100 or the amount you paid us in the past 12 months, whichever is greater.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms or for any conduct we determine to be harmful to families, users, or the platform. You may delete your account at any time by contacting support@migrantportal.com.
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Kansas, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Kansas.
